I Want The Earth Plus 5% is an interesting story and reflects one of the major conspiracy theories of today, i.e., that the bankers got together a long time ago and figured out how to steal everyone's assets. The alternative explanation is, of course, that people did what seemed like a good idea at the time but the idea(s) turned out to be not so great in retrospect. Regardless of which theory you hold to, we can use the story to point out some of the mistakes being made and thus, perhaps, begin to see a way out of our current situation.
