One of the techniques for protecting your financial information is to use a private (free-market) bank. Currently, there are two such banks worthy of the name although one of them, e-gold, is adamant that they are not a bank:
Both banks require no government-issued numbers. Both will maintain an account in gold and allow you to transfer gold to other accounts at the same bank. Both will write ordinary checks to third parties and mail them for you. Both charge fees for just about every transaction. (TANSTAAFL - There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch - Heinlein)
e-gold allows you to send them 2nd-party checks routinely while ALH doesn't like you to do that at all. e-gold allows you to maintain accounts in four precious metals while ALH only allows gold and FRN accounts.
All e-gold transactions are completed on-line while ALH works strictly by ordinary postal mail. The on-line feature means that e-gold transactions can usually be completed much faster than ALH transactions.
e-gold allows transactions from and to anywhere in the world while ALH is pretty much restricted to the united States of America.
Both get the job done. Investigate fully and take your pick. Or, open an account with both. A little diversity never hurts.
