INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILING EARNED INCOME TAX FINAL RETURN
| 1 | WHO MUST FILE |
Every resident of the tax district who had taxable income during any part of the year. This return must be filed even though your tax was fully withheld with no tax due. Please sign your return. If you received a final return but had no taxable income for the tax year, please indicate the reason on the front and return the form to the tax office. |
| 2 | TIME TO FILE | On or before April 15th. |
| 3 | PLACE TO FILE |
Mail completed returns to Extortionburg Earned Income Tax Bureau, 1040 Extortion Blvd, Extortionburg, West Carolina 66666 or in person at the tax office during office hours: Monday-Friday 8am-4pm. After office hours please use drop slot. |
| 4 | TAXABLE INCOME |
Salaries, wages, commissions, bonuses, incentive payments, fees, tips, fellowships, patent and royalty income, jury duty, inactive reserve military pay earned within Extortionburg, vacation pay received from Union Health and Welfare Benefit Funds (I.L.G.W.U. payments), withholding taxes assumed by employer, sick pay received as regular salary per employee contract, payments for annual leave, vacations, holiday, separation pay, net profits from the operation or ownership of a business, profession or other activity. |
| 5 | NON-TAXABLE INCOME |
Social Security payments, pensions, insurance proceeds, gifts, bequests and inheritances, wages paid to persons on active military service (including active duty reserve pay earned outside Extortionburg), workmen's compensation, interest, dividends, capital gains, lottery winnings, incidental rental income, income from investment partnerships, Sub-chapter S corporations, unemployment compensation. |
| 6 | BUSINESS LOSS NON-RECOGNITION |
Net losses resulting from a business or profession or other activity are unable to be recognized as offsets against net profits of a different business, profession or other activity. |
| 7 | NON-RECOGNIZABLE EXPENSES |
The following are examples of expenses NOT deductible: education expenses, moving expenses, union dues, uniforms and work clothes, tools, office-in-home expenses if an office is not required to be maintained as part of your employment contract and other expenses not required to be incurred to maintain your current position. Supplementary unemployment benefits (Sub Pay), Sick or disability benefits (Periodical payments received by an individual under a sickness or disability insurance plan.) |
| 8 | PAYMENTS OR REFUNDS |
Payments of less than $1.00 are not required. Refunds of less than $1.00 will not be made. In the event of an overpayment of tax, the Final Return must provide the following information: Taxpayers name, current address, social security number, signature of taxpayer. All proof of earnings (W-2, 1099, schedules) and deductions (2106) for proper verification along with the return. Failure to provide the above mentioned information will result in a Disallowed Refund. |
| 9 | LATE PAYMENTS | Add 1% penalty and interest charges per month applicable from April 15 on the balance due, line 12. Report on line 14. |
| 10 | DELINQUENT PAYMENTS |
Add $10.00 delinquent charge if filed after April 15th. |
| 11 | EXTENSIONS | A copy of IRS Federal Form 2588 MUST be filed with the Extortionburg Earned Income Tax Bureau on or before April 15. Additional extensions MUST be filed as required. |
| 12 | FAILURE TO FILE |
Failure to receive a tax return does not relieve you of the responsibility to file a return. Failure to file may result in a fine of up to $500.00. |
