pay your federal taxes as imposed by law
This is a favorite trick of the IRS. They make an official sounding statement such as 'you must pay your taxes' and then tack on 'as imposed by law' at the end. The phrase 'as imposed by law' means that the statement doesn't really mean that you are required by law to pay your taxes. It means that IF the law requires you to pay your taxes, then you must pay them. Duh!
