Do Things If You Would Do Them Anyway

Sometimes people who discover what the bureaucrats have been doing to them all this time get the attitude that they must fight the bureaucrats every time they confront them. While this is an admirable attitude and one which, if followed by every sovereign individual, would significantly reduce bureaucrat interference in everyone's life, it is also an attitude that will keep you busy twenty-four hours a day for the rest of your life. None of us can afford that kind of time so, as asserted earlier in this course, pick your fights.

Let's face it. Many of the things that the bureaucrats want to force you to do, you would do anyway even if not forced. For example, most state transportation codes require that drivers maintain automobile insurance. Now you could argue that you are not a driver and that therefore you are not required to maintain insurance but this would probably result in several run-ins with the bureaucrats and consume a considerable amount of your time and other resources. And if you finally win and there is a legal determination that you don't have to maintain automobile insurance, will you cancel your insurance? Some might but many people, even sovereign individuals, think that automobile insurance is a good idea. If you think it's a good idea and you would buy it anyway, why go to the bother and expense of fighting the requirement?

Another example is home inspections. This is actually a pretty good idea, especially if you get a professional home inspector to do the inspection on a home that you are purchasing. In some communities, it is a legal requirement to have a home inspection prior to closing. While it should be a matter of personal choice as to whether or not have your new home inspected and not a matter of rules, regulations, and statutes, if you would have the inspection done anyway, why go to the bother and expense of fighting the rule?

I'm sure you can come with a number of examples of your own. The point is not to waste your time and resources. There's plenty of places to use them where it will count for something important.
